Millwood, Va) – On Thursday, March 27th at 6pm, Dr. Jennifer Barrett, associate professor of equine surgery at Virginia Tech’s Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center, will present her lecture, “Regenerative Medicine: What is it? & How is it being used to help horses?” during Long Branch Plantation’s Cabin Fever Speaker Series. Long Branch Plantation, located just 20 minutes west of Middleburg, Virginia, is an historic house museum & horse-boarding farm located on 400 acres of rural Virginian land.
As part of Long Branch Plantation’s Cabin Fever Speaker Series (scheduled every Thursday in March at 6pm), Dr. Barrett will present on cutting edge regenerative medicine and how it is being used to help horses today. Dr. Barrett states that, “Veterinarians have been using stem cell and platelet rich plasma therapies to treat tendon, ligament and joint injuries in horses for over a decade. This 50-minute lecture will describe the basics of regenerative medicine and stem cell biology as they relate to horses. Topics to be covered include: What is a stem cell? What different kinds of stem cells are there? What do stem cells do in the body? How are stem cells being used to treat horses? What therapies have evidence to support their use, and what therapies need further research?”
An accomplished and experienced equine doctor and researcher, Dr. Barrett’s list of associated universities and organizations includes: Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, Theodora Ayer Randolph Professor of Equine Surgery, Associate Professor of Equine Surgery - Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences - Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center, and Virginia Tech, Leesburg, VA.
The $5.00 lecture tickets will be available at the door at 6 pm on Thursday, March 27th. The $5.00 includes the presentation, drinks, and appetizers.
