Cold bits can cause soft tissue damage

After consulting with my veterinarian, she stated, "A bit exposed to winter temperatures can actually cause damage to your horse's soft tissue." This could result in numbness and /or over sensitivity to the touch, both of which can be a potential problem with acceptance of a bit.

It is suggested to prevent damage from a cold bit, warm the bit using methods such as placing the bit under warm water, in one's hand or purchase an electric bit warmer.
