StoneGate Stables, a premiere Northern Virginia equestrian facility located at 24556 James Monroe Highway (Route 15) in Aldie, has emerged from a harsh winter which saw roof damage from the record breaking January snowstorm with a safer, improved facility and new management.

Jane Nordstrom, owner of Jane Nordstrom Trainer LLC, will be StoneGate’s new manager effective June 1, announced Carol Lynn Nelms, StoneGate’s owner. Carol Lynn and Jim Nelms have owned StoneGate since 2004 and leased the property after relocating to Florida in 2013. Nordstrom has operated her horse boarding and riding instruction business from StoneGate since December 2013.

“I have known Jane for over a decade, and she is one of the hardest-working equestrian professionals I have encountered,” Nelms said. “During January’s blizzard, Jane camped out at StoneGate for the duration to ensure her horses were properly taken care of and helped shore up the roof in one of the barns. When the roof collapsed, Jane helped evacuate the horses and built three temporary stalls to keep her horses safe and comfortable. Jane’s commitment to horse care and safety is critical. She will bring that type of commitment to her new role as property manager.”

StoneGate Stables, which opened in 2004, sits on 100 acres of land. The facility features large 100x200 indoor and 140x270 outdoor arenas, open-field riding, and a covered Free Style Walker; all of which provides year-round riding, training and shows for its clientele and the Northern Virginia equestrian community.

“StoneGate is one of the premiere equestrian facilities in Northern Virginia, and I am excited to take it to the next level,” Nordstrom said. We had a difficult winter which saw unexpected damage to one of the barns. Jim & Carol Lynn made the decision to completely replace the roof on that barn so we are emerging with a better facility than ever. Other improvements include a revamped wash stall, upgraded footing in both indoor and outdoor arenas, cross country jumps, new jumps for the outdoor arena.”

Nordstrom was also quick to praise her staff who have an “amazing level of commitment to the horses, the clients and the property. They were incredibly supportive during the rebuild and are working hard to bring maintenance levels up to par.” In addition, “We are developing plans to hold clinics with top level trainers and riders as well as hold a series of quality VHSA Associate horse shows.”

Jane Nordstrom Training LLC will offer continue to offer boarding, lessons and training to hunter/jumper riders of all ages, focusing on competing at local and regional “AA” competitions. Details can be found at www.janenordstrom.com.
