Two weeks ago The Hon. Helen Marie Taylor thrilled the President of the GPTA at Grymes School, Pamela Hudson, with a phone call in which she offered to donate one of her pure bred Arabian Geldings to the Grymes Auction! Not one to “look a gift horse in the mouth”, Pamela consulted Penny Work, the new Head of Grymes School, and proceeded to accept this wonderful gift.

Mrs. Taylor has been buying and breeding straight Egyptian Arabians for the last 20 years. They are owned by the Jaquelin E. Taylor Marital Trust and are known as the “Bloomsbury Arabians”. This world renowned collection is stabled at “The Sylvania”, an outstanding barn designed and built by Sears Roebuck for the Augustus family in the 1930’s at Mount Sharon, the old Taylor Family Crown Grant Property, just outside Orange.

The Auction will be held at this handsome barn where the lovely gelding, “HMT SharminSharaf”, will be on show. He is a bay gelding born in 1999, and has a purebred Arabian Certificate of Registration. He has been broken and is suitable for an intermediate rider. His father was the Great Crown Stallion, Moniet El Sharaf, son of Ibn Moniet El Nefous who was syndicated for ten million dollars. These elegant horses have blood lines going back to the stables of the biblical King Solomon. SharminSharaf has been valued at $10,000. As Helen Marie Taylor said:

“If I am going to give away one of these beautiful Arabian’s, I can’t think of any place I would rather have them be than the foothills of The Piedmont, and benefiting Grymes School is a special pleasure. I am hoping one of our neighbors will love them as much as I have.”

When asked about Mrs. Taylor’s generous gift, Penny Work said:

“We are really overcome by Mrs. Taylor’s generosity! The Grymes Auction is a fun event that our parents organize to help us make a Grymes education a great education. The GPTA helps us fund playground equipment, computers, musical instruments, sports equipment – the list is endless. 50% of the kids at Grymes receive financial aid, and Mrs. Taylor’s gift will increase our ability to serve area children enormously. And how exciting to be able to auction such a beautiful animal at the May event!”

We will accept written bids, and will certainly welcome bids from anyone attending the Auction. For more information please email grymesgpta@aol.com or call Grymes Memorial School (540) 672 1010 ask for Pamela Hudson.

Grymes Memorial School Auction, The Black and White Ball, will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday May 13, 2006 at The Sylvania, Mount Sharon Road, Orange. Take Route 20 N to Rt. 600 just past the airport. Turn left then at the fork in the road keep right. Tickets are required to attend.

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!
