North Slope Stables offers lessons, sales, training, show coaching, and board at our beautiful facility located in Bluemont, Va just off Rt.7. Head trainer Sonya Crampton, who has competed several horses at the CCI**** level of Eventing, has also very successfully shown Hunters, Jumpers, and Derby horses everywhere from Spruce Meadows and Kentucky, to New York, WEF, and Ocala. She has won hundreds of ribbons on Baby Green hunters, Derby horses, Grand Prix horses, Event horses and everything in between. Two of her students qualified for the Olympics, and she also coached a very successful Team Alberta at the NAYRC two years running. She brings a wealth of educational experience to her lesson and training system which is communicated with thoughtfulness, compassion, clarity, and humour, emphasizing strong dressage fundamentals as well as jumping technique.
North Slope's boutique style creates a close, friendly, and supportive atmosphere in which our clients can thrive in their pursuit of their respective goals. After ten years of being on the Canadian Olympic Team long/short list, Sonya insists on top care for our equine partners, whether it be a small pony or a Grand Prix horse. We handle the vet, farrier, and therapeutic work as needed. However, we consider the education of horsemanship to be as important as riding, and therefore encourage a hands-on approach and participation as much as possible. Our goal is to create thinking, independent riders and horses who are confident in their skills, education, and abilities as they head into the ring or out of the start box.
Our facility can accommodate up to 15 horses, with 12 indoor stalls and 3 outdoor stalls. The large, airy stalls have rubber mats and are kept pristinely clean by our wonderful staff. There is a large wash stall with hot and cold water, as well as two additional sets of cross ties with rubber mats for grooming as the horses get groomed every day. The heated tackroom includes a restroom and kitchen area. There is also laundry service. We have several large turn-out fields with lush well-managed grass. We have an outdoor arena with great footing as well as a derby/grand prix field, complete with water jump and ditches. The ride out is wonderful with plenty of hills to help horses get fit or just relax. Our staff lives on the property to better care for and supervise the horses. We feed Cavalor feed as our feed of choice but will also customize a feeding program for each individual as needed. In addition we feed top quality hay and supplements. De-worming is included on a schedule determined by our excellent vets.
