About Wendy and The Murdoch Method

Wendy Murdoch has ridden since childhood in a variety of disciplines including Hunters, Dressage, Eventing, and Reining. In 1984 while working towards her PhD in Equine Biomechanics, Wendy incurred a severe riding accident. The accident changed the course of her life from theoretical study to applied biomechanics for both horse and rider. As a result Wendy has been teaching internationally for over 18 years. Her goal is to make riding more enjoyable and fundamentally simple by showing her students how to achieve what great riders do naturally.

Wendy holds a Master’s Degree in Equine Reproductive Physiology from the University of Kentucky (1986). Her background includes intensive study with Linda Tellington-Jones, Founder of TEAM®; an apprenticeship in 1992 with Sally Swift, Founder of Centered Riding®; Dr. Joyce Harman, holistic veterinarian and noted authority on saddle fitting; Bettina Drummond, the only authorized representative of the Nuno Oliveira School in North America; Jon Zahourek, creator of Zoologik® Equiken® Anatomy in Clay, system for learning anatomy; and Dr. Hilary Clayton, recipient of the McPhail Chair at Michigan State University to study biomechanics in dressage horses. In May 2005 she completed the 4-year Feldenkrais® Method Practitioner Training and is now a certified Feldenkrais Practitioner. The Feldenkrais Method provides Wendy with more ways of presenting information to her students.

The Murdoch Method® is a dynamic, continuously evolving and highly fluid method of education of both horse and rider in equestrian skills, for all disciplines. The Method attempts to use the most up-to-date information in science and technology combined with traditional knowledge, information and wisdom. The Murdoch Method is not a system of riding; it is a process for learning. The following definitions below should be interpreted in that light.

The Murdoch Method assumes that both human beings and horses have intelligence and transformational potential and that both, regardless of their age or condition, have the ability to learn, to alter their perception of their environmental surroundings and the conditions and limitations of their movement. As well the Murdoch Method recognizes the value of continual education with diversity of subject, and that through a thorough understanding of a broad base of topics a rider and horse can achieve their full potential.
