EVANS LEADING VIRGINIA BREEDER IN 2006

Edward P. Evans of Spring Hill Farm was once again the leding breeder of Virginia-breds in 2006. Runners Evans bred made 469 starts winning 74 races. Those horses also accounted for 67 seconds and 58 thirds for total earnings of $2,366,421.

Evans was represented by 93 horses that earned money racing in 2006. His top earner was Fusaichi Auster who raced exclusively in Japan earning $210,063 and a second place finish in the American Jockey Club Cup Gr. 2. Other top Evans runners included $115,122 earner Pleasant Chimes who won the $60,000 Long Look Stakes at Monmouth; $105,902 winner Diamond Spirit who placed in the $100,000 Sands Point Stakes Gr. 3 at Belmont; and $100,100 earner Warning Zone who won the $60,000 Pinjara Stakes at the Oak Tree meet at Santa Anita and the $75,000 Generous Stakes Gr. 3 at Hollywood Park.

Audely Farm, Inc. in Berryville was second with $1,165,869 in earnings for 2006. Audley runners made 303 starts with 42 wins, 47 seconds and 27 thirds. Their top earner was Eishin Boston who also raced in Japan. Eishin Boston won races on both the flat and over jumps while earning $164,330.

Audley also bred top earners Changeisgonnacome who won $97,850 including the $70,000 P.G. Johnson Stakes at Saratoga, Miss Goodnight, a winner of $96,160, including the $100,000 Blue Hen Stakes at Delaware; Canadian graded stakes winner The Visualiser who earned $78,868), Ceres Man, a winner in Japan of $68,862; and Silver Flower, a winner of $63,700.

The third leading breeder in 2006 was Joe Allbritton's Lazy Lane Stables, Inc. The Upperville nursery logged $896,996 in earning in 2006 from 162 starts and 31 wins. The leading earner was Grade 3 stakes winner Union Avenue who banked $258, 870 including a stakes victory at Colonial Downs. Union Avenue also won the $250,000 American Derby Gr.3 at Arlington Park.

Allbritton and Lazy Lane were also represented by Admiral's Cruise who earned $128,905 with a win in the Fred Archer Stakes and the Sportsman Newspaper Geoffrey Freer Stakes Gr. 3 in England. In addition, Lazy Lane was represented by the $96,400 earner and multiple stakes winner Rgirldoesn'tbuff.
