VA Horse Council Announces Dates for 2007 Annual Meeting and Equine Education Seminar

The Virginia Horse Council (VHC) has scheduled its 2007 Annual Meeting for March 23-24 at the Wyndham Airport Hotel in Richmond and invites all interested equine enthusiasts to attend. The event includes a variety of activities and several educational sessions.
Friday evening (March 23) will start with a reception, an exhibit by local artist Robin Caspari, and a presentation on Disaster Preparedness. Also on Friday evening, attendees will have the opportunity to visit with vendors and meet Don Hoglund, DVM, keynote speaker for the meeting, and author of the recently published book, Nobody’s Horses—the Dramatic Rescue of the Wild Herd of White Sands.” Dr. Hoglund will also sign copies of his book on Friday and artist Robin Caspari will be on hand with several of her nationally recognized equine artworks.
Saturday (March 24) kicks off with the VHC Open Meeting, followed by two educational sessions. Georgiana McCabe of Equestrian Land Conservation Resource will discuss Land Use and Access Issues for Equestrians and Equines, and Dr. Claudia True of Woodside Equine Clinic will discuss Innovations in Equine Dentistry.
Following lunch, Dr. Hoglund will discuss his book, Nobody’s Horses. Dr. Richard Wilkes, State Veterinarian with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, will next provide an overview of the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). The afternoon will conclude with a Q&A session for all the speakers and door prize drawings.

The Virginia Horse Council is the advocate for the horse industry across the
Commonwealth; it is a non-profit organization formed by Virginia horsemen for Virginia horsemen. The membership and volunteer board of directors represent the diverse breed groups and disciplines that make up Virginia’s equine industry. The VHC deals with key issues affecting horse owners including legislative issues, educational and youth programs, land use, and trails development.
