Norwegian Fjord Evaluation to be Held at Frying Pan Park

The Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry has announced that Frying Pan Park will be the site of the only Norwegian Fjord Horse evaluation on the East Coast in 2007. Scheduled for August 18 and 19, 2007, this event is expected to attract nearly 40 Fjord horses from 6 states for two days of conformation and performance evaluations. The Virginia Fjord Fjestival, which features information on the breed, demonstrations and sale horses, will be held in conjunction with the Evaluation.

Norwegian Fjord Horses is one of the world's oldest and purest breeds. It is believed that the original Fjord Horse migrated to Norway and was domesticated over 4,000 years ago. There are approximately 5,000 pure bred Fjord horses in North America today. Known for its dun color and dorsal stripe that runs from the forelock to the tail, Fjords have are known for their friendly disposition and versatility as performance horses.

The NFHR evaluation program assesses Fjord horses individually on conformation against the breed standard. Performance tests are offered for introductory and advanced levels in English riding, Western riding, driving and draft. Medallions of Quality Awards are presented based on conformation and performance scores.
