The Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program (NVTRP) announced today the third annual Ride to Thrive Polo Classic. NVTRP, a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding opportunities for individuals with disabilities, is hosting their third annual fundraising event, in conjunction with Charlie Muldoon, at his Summerhill Farm in Poolesville, MD. This year, the event will be Saturday, September 22, 2007, rain or shine. All proceeds from this event will benefit NVTRP.
Gates open at 1pm for tailgating, with the match beginning at 3pm. The fees to attend are as follows: $35 for general admission ($50 at the gate), $75 for admission to the VIP Tent, and $400 to reserve a VIP tailgate space, which includes general admission for six. All prices will increase 8/22/07, and can be purchased at www.ridetothrivepolo.org.
Polo is a high-speed, intensely physical game. Polo players advance on the field of play, often at a full gallop, riding 1,000-pound horses. A match features periods, or “chukkers,” in which riders score by using a mallet to drive a 3-inch in diameter ball between uprights at each end of a field the size of ten football fields. With the many high-goal and international players Summerhill Farm attracts each year, the competition will be intense.
This year should prove to be The Ride to Thrive Polo Classic’s highest attended match, with an expectancy of 1,000 people. Team sponsors include The Warren Capital Group and Booz Allen Hamilton. Chukker Sponsors include Bearing Point, Gold Dog Communications, The Jackson Clinics, and Clark Construction. Field Sponsors include Antares Sellier de France and Esite Marketing.
The day will feature one full-length polo match, including the traditional divot stomp, jumping demonstration, live band, wine tasting, martini bar and hat contest. In addition, several fine young equestrians from Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program will treat match-goers to a therapeutic riding demonstration. Bleu Catering by IndeBleu will provide food and spirits to guests in the VIP tent as well as a pre-party Thursday, September 20th, where the 9-22Polo, the match’s signature drink will be unveiled.
