Workshop Description

The workshop will be led by Anne Buteau, who is a Certified Practitioner and former Field Instructor with the American Association of Natural Hoof Care Practitioners (“AANHCP”). She is the only AANHCP Certified Practitioner in the State of Virginia. Ms. Buteau has undergone training with leaders in the natural hoofcare field, including Jaime Jackson and Pete Ramey. Ms. Buteau has been trimming professionally since 2000 and trims horses in Central Virginia.

The goal of the workshop is to introduce participants to natural hoofcare, demonstrate its potential role in giving their horses a longer, sounder life, and give them an opportunity to trim a cadaver foot to feel what it takes to trim a horse’s foot. The workshop will focus on developing an understanding of the natural hoof, principles of natural hoofcare and aspects of the natural trim. Participants will observe Anne critique some feet on different horses, and trim them, explaining what she sees and how the feet could be expected to improve as a result of a natural hoofcare program. The participants should by the end of the workshop be "getting an eye" for what is healthy and what is not so healthy, and be able to relate what they have learnt to their own horses.
