Foxy Jumps announced that it is introducing a new line of equipment (see NEW PHOTOS added) for Parelli Natural Horsemanship (PNH) play activities and is providing sponsorship for the February 9 PNH play day managed by Equizen at their facility in Lovettsville, VA. Foxy Jumps will be providing jump equipment and other Parelli-oriented training equipment for the clinic and play session, as well as donating equipment for the prizes awarded at the PNH meetup.
The PNH play day clinic is open to all horse people interested in learning about Natural Horsemanship. Reservations are being taken for those wishing to bring their horses to the clinic to participate.
PNH has been gaining favor among many factions of horse trainers, breeders, and general horse lovers at large for several reasons. PNH is based upon a positive approach for building trust and understanding between horse and rider / trainer. This type of human / horse bonding has been cited as one of the most important reasons for the success of many world class riders and trainers and is made more easily accessible to all horse people via PNH. PNH is becoming more and more popular among horse breeders and trainers of young horses, especially those targeted for careers in show jumping or eventing, because of the positive exposure and desensitization horses receive in hand to the types of jump elements they will be training under saddle when they are old enough. Dressage trainers appreciate the accelerated learning track that young horses receive for dressage maneuvers in hand. Many principles incorporated in the PNH approach are fundamental to the European paradigm of dressage training received by horses abroad that has been adopted by many dressage trainers stateside. The Parelli approach emphatically stresses training horses to yield to pressure so that horses are trained early on to learn to respond to slight (differential) changes in pressure in the manner desired by the rider / trainer. This approach and the techniques deployed help develop responsiveness in horses to differential pressure so that riders don't have to apply drastic pressure to communicate effectively with the horse(s). The PNH paradigm provides a foundation of fundamental horsemanship and equestrian philosophy that is a comprehensive baseline for all disciplines of riding.
Owner of Foxy Jumps and open jumper rider / trainer, Chris Ruel, especially encouraged show jumpers, eventers, and fox hunters to attend to gain exposure to the PNH paradigm because of the great benefits the approach and philosophy brings to horses, their human partners, the training approaches, and the their combined performance. He further indicated that the introduction of horses early on in their training to jump elements and the progressive exposure of horses to more difficult jump elements has been centric to his philosophy in developing the types of innovative jump elements produced by Foxy Jumps.
In his clinic at Morven Park in October, George Morris lashed horse trainers at large for not giving their horses (in many cases) adequate and progressive exposure to more (progressively) challenging jump elements. Morris was also heard on several occasions to encourage riders to "play" with their horses to gain their attention and engage them in a positive manner, rather than drilling them relentlessly like machines. Both of these concepts are centric to the Parelli paradigm. These basic PNH concepts benefit horses, riders, and trainers from all disciplines.
Riders, trainers, and horse people from all disciplines are welcome and encouraged to attend the PNH meetup hosted by Equizen on February 9. Participation and auditing are free of charge, though donations are welcome. Refreshments will be provided. Foxy Jumps will have jumps and PNH equipment on sale at the clinic / play session.
