VET SCHOOL RECEIVES $1.1 MILLION FROM WAGERING
Submitted by: Virginia Thoroughbred Association
Shortly after the beginning of pari-mutuel wagering in Virginia, the Virginia Racing Commissions' Code Revision Committee drafted legislation designed to allocate one-quarter of one percent of the total handle to three equine related entities - the Virginia Horse Industry Board (VHIB), the Virginia Horse Center (VHC) and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. The legislation was subsequently passed by Virginia's General Assembly. The allocation gives one-half of the money collected to the Vet school and divides the other half between the VHIB and the VHC. |
