Dear Volunteer,
Just as spring brings about beautiful changes, we are seeing new and exciting changes develop here at Virginia Tech’s Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center. Let me begin with a few words about what our center does and how it benefits the community.

The MARE Center is an equine research and educational center that focuses on studies revolving around the health and nutrition of horses. Research is also geared toward pasture management which will ensure healthy and viable horses now and in the future. Educational programs are offered at the MARE Center through the center’s equine research professor, equine extension agent, and other faculty and staff. Program topics such as diet, nutrition, rescue, breeding and laminitis are offered to the community on a regular basis in an effort to disseminate knowledge that may help the equine enthusiast and owner to raise, produce and care for their equines.

The MARE Center’s newest program opportunity is the MARE Center Volunteer Program and it was developed for several reasons. The most obvious reason for volunteerism is to seek people interested in helping better our mission, but beyond that, volunteers ultimately help broaden the scope of agriculture by giving of their time and support.

The MARE Center Volunteer Program would like to ask you and your group to assist us in meeting some of our goals. The center has many volunteer opportunities such as working with horses, painting and carpentry, landscaping, gardening, and office help to name just a few!

Perhaps you or a group you belong to would be interested in coming to the MARE Center to volunteer or donate to the center. Any donation of plants, trees, building materials, etc., would offer you a naming opportunity for your generosity which would allow everyone who visits to know your group lent a helping hand to improve our center. For more information about our volunteer program, please contact me at 540-687-3521 ext 22 or email MAREC@vt.edu , or visit our web site www.vaes.vt.edu/middleburg. Your consideration and generosity are sincerely appreciated.

Sincerely,
