Horse industry icon John Lyons returns to Virginia along with a host of top name horse professionals to kick off the 5th annual Virginia Equine Extravaganza, Virginia’s biggest and best horse happening of 2008! The event will be held at the Richmond Raceway Complex, Richmond, VA October 31-Nov 2.Free admission for kids in costume on Friday, Oct. 31.

After a year break from the expo circuit for recovery from dual knee replacement John Lyons returns to the Virginia Equine Extravaganza for a command performance. John’s Equine Extravaganza clinics in 2005 and 2006 sported standing room only crowds as “America’s Most Trusted Horseman” wowed the audience with his remarkable ability to address some of the most common yet challenging issues that horse owners face with their equine partners.
Event organizer Vicki O’Hara had first hand experience with John’s magic as he worked with her daughter’s former eventer. “When we retired Spritz from eventing and gave him to another young rider as a “starter” horse he proved to be “too much horse” for his new owner. We saw first hand how John’s methods took this very tense horse from agitated to calm in a matter of minutes. John gave Spritz and his new owner tools to help them both relax and enjoy the ride,” O’Hara said. “That’s what the Equine Extravaganza is all about ….. helping horse owners find better, gentler tools to assist them in becoming the best that they can be.”
In the much anticipated and exciting 3rd East Coast Trainer Challenge finals three exceptional trainers take colt starting to new heights as they are judged on their ability to prepare a young unstarted horse for the first ride using natural horsemanship methods based on trust and respect. This year’s competitors represent the winners from three different regional competitions including North Carolina Equine Extravaganza Trainer Challenge winner Brock Griffith. Each trainer will work with their horse for one hour on each of the three days of the expo, with the competition culminating in the ultimate test of success as the trainers take their horse though an obstacle course on Sunday. The trainer challenge will take place on Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30 and on Sunday morning at 11:45 and is included in the cost of admission.

Other world renown trainers include 2006 and 2007 Trainer Challenge hall of famers Tommy Garland and Ed Dabney, Richard Shrake, Randy Abernathy, Charles Pelham, Scott Purdum, Michael Tokaruk, Kenny Harlow, Australian dressage judge Colleen Kelly, movie horse trainer Doug Sloan, BJ Hartmann and many more for over 100 clinics, demonstrations and seminars covering every topic imaginable. Check the schedule at www.equineextravaganza.com for complete list of clinics and times.

The kids corral will boast the usual stick horse and roping fun as well as a Friday 5:30 Costume Parade and contest. Kids 11 and under who wear a costume will receive free admission on Friday, as we celebrate the biggest equine Harvest Party on the east coast! Bring a bag to trick or treat with the vendors.

If your horse is talented, be sure to check out America’s Ultimate Horse Idol competition. Between the shopping, seminars, roundtable discussions, demos, entertainment, and the company of thousands of people that share a passion for horses, the Equine Extravaganza is a no-brainer destination for all horse enthusiasts! Mark your calendars!
