Horsemen in Virginia’s Hunt Country now have another option for their horse’s emergency care after The Piedmont Equine Practice Inc., opened a new state-of-the-art hospital and clinic between Marshall and The Plains. The 6,500 square foot building includes a premier equine hospital, complete with specialty care and treatment for surgical colics and other medical emergencies requiring surgery.
“We’re excited about our new facility and the opportunity we have to serve horse owners whose animals require emergency services,” said Dr. Joe Davis. “This hospital has been a much-needed addition in an area with a wealth of horses, from Olympic-level athletes to foxhunters and companion animals.”
In addition to emergencies, the surgical wing is also available for elective surgeries such as arthroscopy. The new Piedmont Equine Practice hospital and clinic also includes diagnostic and treatment services such as scintigraphy (bone scans), digital radiography and ultrasound, shockwave therapy, acupuncture and chiropractic. An expanded treatment center also provides the optimum environment for pre-purchase exams, lameness diagnoses and other examinations.
The Piedmont Equine Practice includes 13 veterinarians whose special interests include sports medicine, surgery, emergency care, dentistry, reproduction and alternative therapies. Several of these veterinarians are board certified in specialty areas and focus on continuing education to ensure that the horses they care for receive the most up-to-date treatments available.
