The region’s largest equine trade show, Equine Event East, returns this year to the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA (approximately 25 minutes west of Washington, DC) on March 18 through 20. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 18; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 19; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 20. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for children, and free for children under 6 years. In addition, the event will offer free admission to all Virginia Horse Council members (proof of membership required). For information on how to join the Virginia Horse Council, visit the web at www.virginiahorsecouncil.org.

“We are delighted to have a partnership again this year with the Virginia Horse Council,” states Janice Donahue, show organizer for Equine Event East. The VHC will hold its annual meeting in conjunction with the show.

Other activities at the event include “Breyer Fun Days” which will include games, prizes and crafts all weekend and “Paint Your Own Horse Day” on Saturday, March 19 from 10 am to 5 pm. During “Paint Your Horse Day”, children will be allowed each hour to paint a model horse. Plan to arrive early for this event as it’s very popular and space is limited.

Author Buck Lakinowski will be available to autograph books and horse sets. The actual horses “Cupid” and “Arrow” will be on site. These two have become internationally known through Buck’s books and through Breyer’s modeling of the two horses. Cupid was rescued at an auction by Buck when he noticed the perfectly formed heart on her face. Although she had been extremely abused and was in terrible condition, he bought her and brought her home to care for her. Cupid then gave birth to a foal with a perfectly formed arrow on his back. The two horses have stolen the hearts of many children and adults.

Drawings will be held throughout the weekend for giveaways of saddles, bridles and all types of horse equipment.

Dave Seay, Nina Fout, Bruce Davidson, Josh Lyons, Karen and David O’Connor head up a list of all-stars that will provide a variety of demonstrations and clinics on a wide array of topics including loading and trailering your horse, horse nutrition, dealing with aging horses, achieving successful fitness levels, farm and field management, competing, tack, breeding and technology. A “Horse Ownership 101” will help those trying to decide how to select a horse and what to look for.

A wide variety of vendors will sell items ranging from riding clothing, tack, and feed to trailers, stables, and fencing, and everything in between. The American Quarter Horse Association will offer free rides on Quarter horses.

This comprehensive three-day program will bring together some of the best national and equine experts and companies. There is something at this show for everyone!
