Research indicates that the mind/body connection is real. The immune system, nervous system, brain, and other vital body systems communicate and influence one another. Everything that is registered in the mind is registered in the body. Positive factors contribute to good health while negative factors result in disease. A whole-person approach to health is the way to be vitally alive.
When a person is living in a state of optimal health they are more capable of undertaking the delicate job of caring for an animal as sensitive as a horse. Horses are extremely intuitive animals that can sense distress in their environment whether its source is the human or the environment. Not every person is capable of maintaining a consistently positive situation for the life of a horse. Sadly, some horses become sullen, withdrawn, or manifest vices such as cribbing as a reaction to their care and handling as a defense mechanism.
As an advocate for the equine species I encourage people to carefully examine their motivation for owning a horse, and at the same time attempt to fairly consider their personal physical & mental stability. In the long run the horse generally becomes a mirror reflection of its human counterpart(s).
