Commercialism surrounds us in every aspect of life and the equestrian clinician and clinic circuit is no different. There are clinicians who push their “easy steps”, “tricks” and wares at us at every turn. However, just like dieting, no matter how many fad diets or pretty packaged pills we try, in the end the diet does not work and the weight does not stay off. Sadly, we are probably worse off physically and mentally trying to take short cuts. We finally realize that we will only have success at reaching our goals by getting back to the basics, understanding nutrition and hard physical work.

It is refreshing and exciting to watch and learn from someone who constantly sticks to the basics of training and teaching both horse and rider because basically, it works.
Patti Haddon has been training and instructing for over 20 years in Colorado and follows the basic philosophy of great natural horsemen such as Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt. Patti is a believer in continuing education for her students and horses, as well as, herself. Patti takes this philosophy to heart and regularly works with Ray Hunt. But it does not stop there; Patti strives to be a well rounded teacher and steps into many other areas of horsemanship to learn and work with several other instructors, such as, Lynn Palm.
With Patti’s “open minded” learning and teaching philosophy, she has incorporated "No gimmicks, just simple, honest training that works for horse and rider" into a wonderful blend of classical and modern horsemanship. Patti's experience and training program ranges from haltering weanlings, starting young horses and advancing mature horses. She also gives lessons and clinics ranging from novice to advanced levels in both Western and English, and many of her students and horses have gone on to compete successfully in western pleasure, halter, trail, hunt seat, 4-H, cattle work and dressage.
Patti believes that it does not matter what saddle you ride in or what discipline you follow. If you understand how to communicate effectively and efficiently with your horse, you can take your goals as far as you want while building a solid relationship with your horse.

The following comes from a testimonial from one of Patti’s clinics and is perfectly stated: “Patti has a rare gift...the ability to communicate with all riders, from show world competitors to the backyard trail and pleasure rider...without stepping on toes. Someone needs to build a great bridge between show world and the natural horsemanship world. Patti shows, understands and does not condemn any horseman. People in the show world end of things might be surprised at the wonderful results from using methods learned from many of the great natural horsemen of the day.”

Treat yourself to a wonderful learning experience; Patti Haddon will be in Waynesboro, VA giving a two day "The Thinking Rider" and Ground Work Clinic. June 18th & 19th. Space is limited for riders. Spectators are welcome. Private sessions are available.
