This week Olympic rider Courtney King had an accident riding a young horse in Florida. She sustained a fractured skull and is in a coma in a Florida hospital.
Last week I was mounting a new training horse when he decided to bolt. I had my left foot in the stirrup & was swinging over when it happened. I decided to do an emergency dismount, tucked, rolled, & hit my head. Fortunately I was wearing a helmet. In spite of the fact that I've had this exact same accident before, I admit that when I ride my horse, or other horses that I know well I have stopped wearing a helmet. From this day forward I vow to wear my helmet EVERY time I get on a horse.
I urge every rider to promise to wear their helmet EVERY time they ride beginning today!!!!!! Accidents happen every day to even the most experienced riders!
