CFC Farm & Home Center announced the introduction of a new feed for stretching scarce hay supplies. Hay Mate high fiber cubes are designed to replace up to 50% of the forage requirement of horses. This economically priced product could answer a need in Virginia due to the lackluster hay making season locally. Many hay producers are reporting to be already sold out of product produced in Virginia.

The key to using Hay Mate is to start by estimating your hay supply and begin stretching it now. Take 20 lbs of grass hay and stretch its use by substituting half of it with Hay Mate. Begin feeding 10 lbs of grass hay and 6.5 lbs of Hay Mate cubes and your current hay supply will last twice as long.

For further information on this product or to design a ration based on an analysis of your forage contact CFC Farm & Home Center equine nutrition specialist Cindy Dell.
