A natural hoof provides superior traction, protection from impact, temperature regulation and shock absorption. It also enables the horse to feel and assess footing and helps the heart pump blood out of the foot and legs as the horse moves.
Ann Buteau, originally from England, has had horses all of her life. In 2000 she started investigating the "Barefoot" idea. In 2003 she joined the American Association of Natural Hoof Care Practitioners, where she discovered the "wild hoof model." She was so impressed with the results she was seeing that she has since become a Certified Practitioner (CP) and Field Instructor (FI). She will spend the day helping clinic participants to understand the rugged and beautiful hoof that nature created.
