FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2nd Annual Polo Match Will Benefit Riders With Disabilities
Ride to Thrive Polo Classic
Polo, Food & Fun—For a Wonderful Cause
(Clifton, VA) – August 2006 - Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program (NVTRP) today announced the second annual Ride to Thrive Polo Classic. NVTRP, a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding opportunities for individuals with disabilities, is hosting this second annual fundraising event in conjunction with Potomac Polo Club. The Polo match will take place at Summerhill Farm, 18411 Beallesville Rd. in Poolesville, MD on Saturday, September 23, 2006 with a rain date of September 24, 2006. Proceeds from this event will benefit NVTRP.
Gates open at 11:30 am for tailgating with the first match beginning at 1 pm, and the second match at 3pm. The fees to attend are $30 for general admission ($40 at the gate), $75 for admission to the VIP Tent, and $400 to reserve a VIP tailgate space, which includes general admission for six.
Polo is a high speed, intensely physical game. Polo players advance on the field of play, often at a full gallop, riding 1,000-pound horses. A match features periods, or “chukkars,” in which riders score by using a mallet to drive a ball 3 inches in diameter between uprights at each end of a field the size of ten football fields. With the many high-goal and international players The Potomac Polo Club attracts each year, the competition will be intense.
The day will feature two full-length polo matches, including the traditional divot stomp. In addition, several fine young equestrians from Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program will treat match-goers to a therapeutic riding demonstration.
