The $1 million Virginia Derby (Gr.II) is the most prestigious annual horse race in the Commonwealth. The Derby is for 3-year-olds and is contested at a mile and a quarter over the Secretariat Turf Course. The Virginia Derby is in its tenth running this year.

The Virginia Derby Trackside Party is a giant party under tents along the stretch. A $25 advance sale ticket gets admission to the party, a program, deluxe catered barbecue lunch, three beer/wine tickets, live music all day, and a free Colonial Downs folding chair.
