Each year in the United States, about 55,000 horses are stolen by horse thieves. Rustling horses is quick, profitable and dirty work. There are many actions that you can take in helping secure your horses against thieves but what can you specifically do to prevent your horse from becoming a target? Most sources offer branding and micro chipping as front runners in deterring thieves.
Prevention is key!
Visual identification is one of the most effective deterrents for horse thieves. The biggest mistake is to believe that it can’t happen to you.
What Can You Do?
BES is offering freeze branding to anyone who has wished to pursue but could not locate a brander in the tri-state area. The price is $65 which includes use of the branding irons, provided by Wayne Corbin of Rockin W Livestock Services, out of South Carolina. Appointments will be scheduled in 20 minute intervals.
