Don't miss the excitement of jump racing held right here in Middleburg - the heart of Virginia Hunt Country. The only 2-day race meet on the National Steeplechase Association's calendar, the Virginia Fall Races offers something for everyone. Saturday highlights include the two co-feature races; the Daniel Sands Hurdle feature and the Chronicle of The Horse Timber classic. Also there will be vendor tents and a Family Fun Fair with pony rides and lots more.
Sunday features a full card of races along with the Finals of the Field Hunter of America Championships. Come early at 12 noon to see fox hunting at its finest - scarlet coats and top hats. Competitors put their mounts through a drag-hunt and then a handy hunter course, all trying to prove that their horse is "the" best field hunter. Some of the tests include dismounting, opening and closing a gate, hand galloping and halting, and perhaps lowering a rail from atop a fence ...all real life situations that a field hunter would face in the hunt field today.
Each day the races begin at 1:30 pm and the gates open at 11:00 am. Tickets can be bought at the gate. General Admission is $25 per car load of 4 people. Parking spaces and entertainment tents can be purchased by calling the race office at (540) 687-5662.
