Helping spread the word on one of Virginia's best kept secrets:
The Virginia Tech MARE Center in Middleburg, VA will hold their 16th annual Thoroughbred Yearling auction this Sunday, Octboer 14th. The yearlings are registered with the Jockey Club and Virginia Thoroughbred Breeders Award Program (VA Breds) and are the product of a program granted by Paul Mellon. All of the MARE (Middleburg Agricultural Research Extension) Center's mares and stallions were generously donated in order to conduct growth, feed, and pasture studies in conjunction with the Virginia Tech Equine Graduate School. These yearlings are herd and pasture raised and may be one of Virginia' best kept secrets! Past "graduates" have become successful racehorses and sporthorses, sired by well established sires Fred Astaire, Rock Point, and Ball's Bluff, as well as outside sires donated via breeding or mare in foal. The sales catalog is posted at http://www.apsc.vt.edu/centers/Mare/...tion.index.htm
There will be a Virginia Thoroughbred Association Harvest Cocktail Party for Virginia Thoroughbred Associates at 6:30 pm on October 11, 2007 at the Virginia Tech MARE Center Sales Pavillion featuring a preview of the yearlings in the sale. Please RSVP for the Cocktail Party by October 8 at 540-347-4313 or vta@vabred.org. (And if anyone goes, please give us your report back on these lovely fillies and geldings!).
For inspection tours prior to the sale, please contact Rita Rollison, at 540-687-3521 or rbrady@vt.edu Mon-Fri
