Date:   Sunday June 15, 2008
Organization:   Capital Hospice and Virginia International Polo Club
Where:   Upperville, VA

Virginia International Polo Club (VIPolo) announces it will host another exciting polo match to benefit Capital Hospice, the area’s oldest and largest nonprofit hospice organization. The second Capital Hospice Polo Cup is scheduled for Sunday, June 15, 2008, at the new Fields of VIPolo at Llangollen, a magnificent historical estate located just north of Upperville, Virginia (west of Middleburg over US 50). The gates open at 11 a.m. and the game starts at noon. In addition to the match, the event will feature brunch and cocktails.

The Capital Hospice Polo Cup, won by the Booz Allen Hamilton Team in 2007, will be contested by top teams sponsored by philanthropic corporations and individuals. With local players anchored by Chilean and Argentine professionals, it promises to be a very competitive and exciting match.

“The inaugural Capital Hospice Polo Cup was a tremendous success and we’re excited to continue our involvement with Capital Hospice. We believe in its mission and want to do all we can to help get the word out to support it,” VIPolo founder and polo player Maureen Brennan said. “It is especially relevant this year as the proceeds are designated for the much-needed inpatient facility to be constructed in western Loudoun County.”

Capital Hospice has staff physicians, nurses, social workers, home health aides and chaplains based in Leesburg and Manassas from which it serves patients in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and private residences throughout Loudoun, Fauquier and Prince William counties. Other Capital Hospice offices are located in Falls Church, Va., Washington D.C. and Prince George’s County, Maryland.

“We are committed to providing the very best care to the moms, dads, and sadly, sometimes children, who need us,” said Malene Davis, President and CEO of Capital Hospice. “Events such as the Capital Hospice Polo Cup assure that we will always be here to meet the community’s need - as we have since 1977. We’re very appreciative that polo aficionados, fans and players also choose to support our goal to reach more families who can benefit from our care. And it’s so appropriate for families to spend Father’s Day together watching a family sporting event to support a family need”

Proceeds from the Polo Cup will support construction of a new inpatient facility. Thanks to the leadership of visionary real estate developer Al Van Metre, the proposed facility will have a home in Van Metre’s Glascock Field at Stone Ridge where US 50 and Gum Springs Road meet.  In December 2007 the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved the Van Metre Companies’ development proposal that included 1.3 million square feet office, 276 residential units, and a 4.1 acres civic use site. Van Metre has agreed to donate the site for development of the Hospice facility. Plans are now underway to design the inpatient facility –the first in Loudon County- which will accommodate 21 patients in private rooms. Capital Hospice projects that groundbreaking will occur in the summer of 2009 with construction complete by late 2010. In addition to the many events such as Capital Hospice Polo Cup, a capital fundraising campaign is being planned, too.

In addition to the match, the event will feature brunch and cocktails. Sponsorships and tickets are available at various levels.
