DID YOU EVER WANT TO LEARN HOW TO DRIVE A HORSE AND CARRIAGE?
The Potomac River Driving Association, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, is sponsoring a weekend of beginner carriage driving lessons on August 2 and 3, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. when it is “Too Hot to Trot” in Bluemont, Virginia. The lessons will be broken down into two sessions each day:
Saturday a.m. - Harness and driving bits, harness parts, and how to fit them properly to a horse.
Saturday p.m. - Reinsmanship, ground driving a horse, and whip handling.
Sunday a.m. - Carriage and cart types and proper attire.
Sunday p.m. - Carriage driving.
The weekend series is hands-on and all lesson material is included. Those who sign up for the entire series will have the opportunity to take the reins and drive during the final session. No experience is required. Bring a chair, gloves, riding helmet and a bagged lunch each day.
