Susan E. Harris, Centered Riding Clinic. Sponsored by the American Connemara Pony Society. Centered Riding is a new way of expressing the classical principles of riding, using body awareness, centering, and imagery, developed by Sally Swift. Centered Riding answers the question of “how” when your instructor tells you “what” to do when riding your horse. It can give you a new perspective on riding and other aspects in your life. Centered Riding applies to all kinds of horsemanship, riding disciplines and any type of horse or rider.
The clinic will consist of both mounted lessons and ground work sessions to teach about anatomy and function, and how the human body works and interfaces with the horse’s movement and balance. Participants will work toward their best potential by removing fear, pressure and unnecessary tension in their riding. Specifically, riders will lean to use their bodies better to ride in balance, sit more securely, communicate more clearly with their horses, and improve their horses quality of movement.
