Viewing Event: SEFHA Colt Starting Challenge |
Date: Saturday November 12, 2011

Website: http://www.SEFHA.net
Southeastern Farriers & Horseowners Association is hosting a colt starting event demonstrating the basics of putting a young horse under saddle. We hope to show the benefits of non-coercive natural horsemanship training for the horse and the owner or rider, and to introduce to the public, the horse trainers who live and work in our area. Each trainer will conduct three 1-hour training sessions in the 3 side-by-side round pens with 3 unbroken and relatively unhandled young horses. At the conclusion of the training, the trainers compete to ride or guide their horse through a short obstacle course. A winning trainer will be declared by a panel of judges based upon how much each trainer was able to accomplish with their horse, taking into account the starting point and trainability of each horse, and on the techniques employed by the trainers. No unduly coercive or harsh treatment of the horses is permitted. The trainers selected are Randy Abernathy, James Cooler and Pam Tanner. Tom Seay of "Best of America by Horseback" will be our master of ceremonies. For more info, www.SEFHA.net
