Here is a bit about what you will see and hear at this year's expo:
*** Sean McQuillan of Kilfinnan Stables will be discussing retraining the Off-the-Track Thoroughbred. Sean has been riding at the advanced level of eventing since he was 20. He has accomplished multiple top placings at international three-day events throughout the years and has been selected for the US Training list as well as being selected for the US Developing Riders Team multiple times. Sean has had a wide range of riding experience including being Assistant Trainer to David O'Connor, hunting professionally for Orange County Hunt, training steeplechase horses for Bay Cockburn, training horses to Level 6 Jumpers, and training horses for young event and dressage horse championships. He has studied under tremendous coaches including Jimmy Wofford, Phillip Dutton, David O'Connor, Stuart Black, and Bay Cockburn. Sean currently works with Jimmy Wofford, Phillip Dutton, and David O'Connor both as coaches and mentors.
*** Allison Spivey, the assistant trainer at Sprieser Sporthorse will be demonstrating a Grand Prix Dressage Freestyle and discussing the training involved to get there. Allison is a USDF Bronze and Silver Medalist and H-A and Dressage-A Pony Clubber, with a top-class riding resume across several disciplines.
*** James Moore of Kelly's Ford Equestrian Center will be giving a demonstration on the proper use of gymnastic jumping exercises. Initially credentialed as a Pony Club Graduate "A", James went on to acquire a Bachelor's Degree in Equine Sciences at Colorado State University. Shortly thereafter, Prestige Training, LLC was founded. Riding at Advanced Level in Eventing since 1988. James has earned "Rider of the Year " in Area IX USEA numerous times. In 2004 he was certified as an Advanced Level Instructor Level III from the U.S. Eventing Association. The same year he was chosen to represent the United States at the World Cup of Eventing in Pau, France. Skilled in all aspects of horsemanship, Jim trains, teaches, and competes at all levels of Eventing, Dressage, and Show Jumping. He has experience in designing and organizing Events from Beginner Novice to Preliminary Levels. He is also an "L" Judge for the U.S. Dressage Federation.
*** Donna Martin, owner of Blue Ridge Trailers in Ruckersville VA, will be talking about trailer safety. Donna Martin has her MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, spent 15 years in the mortgage banking business and 13 years appraising residential real estate. Her business background contributes to her ability to manage the corporation and the Sales Department. A lifetime with horses gives her direct experience with the concerns of horse owners and their needs.
*** Margaret Bogie of Ironwood Farm will be doing a driving demonstration with her Fjord Stallion, Ironwood Blitzen. Blitzen has shown versatility in riding, driving and draft performance. He has completed all the performance awards available in the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry and is one of the few Fjords with this level of accomplishment. He has completed his Silver and Gold Medallions of Quality in driving, draft, and English riding. He has completed the Versatility Award for a high standard of achievement in these three disciplines. Blitzen has also finished his Award for performance in breed and open horse shows. All his excellence points were earned in PERFORMANCE in riding, driving and draft. As with his other awards, Blitzen earned points in a variety of disciplines: dressage, eventing, driving, and draft.
*** There will be more educational opportunities including Farm Safety presented by The Virginia Farm Bureau, Body Condition Scoring presented by the Virginia Cooperative Extension, and a Hippology Contest sponsored by the CFC Farm & Home Center!
