We invite riders to join us for a fun and challenging day of horseback riding across the beautiful foothills of Augusta County. This 5 mile course ambles across fields, stream, and woods with the Allegheny Mountains in the background. Ten basic obstacles, such as a gate, brush drag, embankment, etc. are situated along the trail and creating challenges and laughter for all that participate. Each obstacle is timed and ribbons are awarded the horse/rider team with the highest overall scores in each division (“green horse”—two years or less under saddle, “junior”—rider is 17 or under, “open”—to all). Riders set their own pace and are able to enjoy the excursion. This ride is a wonderful opportunity for groups, friends and families to ride together and enjoy the countryside while they challenge themselves and each other to show off their (and their horse’) best skills. This is also a great opportunity for young horses and young riders to practice skills, have fun, and maybe win some ribbons! All obstacles have a “go-around,” except for two shallow creeks that must be crossed.
The event is held at Cottage Hill and Bellevue Farms in Swoope, VA, seven miles west of Staunton.
